Driving under the influence of alcohol (D.U.I.), causing property damage, and attempting to flee the scene resulted in the arrest on Saturday of one of the deputy mayors of Agadir (from RNI party- in power), reported several concurring sources.
The remains of empty alcohol bottles were found inside the detainee’s vehicle at the scene, providing evidence of his intoxicated state. He was taken into custody at a local police station while he awaited his trial on Monday.
The incident adds to a series of recent scandals involving members of the National Rally of Independents party (RNI) in Agadir. Incidentally, this arrest comes in the wake of another one gaining notoriety, involving a party leader who was also arrested for the same charge.
In another event, a member affiliated with the party had appeared in a recording while he was in an immoral position.
Such impropriety is clearly raising concerns about the behavior of elected officials and damaging the public’s perception of politics.
The party’s ethics committees need to take immediate action to deter further misconduct in the future in order to restore public trust and demonstrate its sincere commitment to citizens. This most recent arrest highlights the urgent need for decisive action.
