The United Nations, through the Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, praised Morocco on Wednesday for its efforts to facilitate compromises on election regulations between Libyan parties convening in Bouznika.
Dujarric said “We’ve taken note of the agreement that was reached by the 6+6 Committee. We did provide some expertise, technical expertise, to support the committee throughout the process…the committee members are really commended for their efforts.”
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) took notice of the activity of the 6+6 HoR-HCS Committee, which convened in Bouznika from May 22 to June 6, to create draft electoral laws for presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Mission commends the 6+6 Committee’s work and thanks the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting the Committee.
The final agreement on those laws will be debated in the coming days in the presence of the Presidents of the House of Representatives and the Libyan Council of State, according to Jalal Shwehdi, a member of the House of Representatives, during the closing session of the commission 6+6, which included Omar Abu Lifa, a member of the High Council of State, and Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Bourita emphasized that the outcomes of the joint commission (6+6) meeting are a significant step toward finding a permanent solution to the Libyan crisis.
The Kingdom of Morocco contributed significantly to finding a solution to the Libyan crisis, leading to agreements such as the Skhirat Agreement (2015) and the agreement between the President of the Lower House and the President of the Libyan High Council of State (October 2022).
