The joint “6+6” committee, charged by the Libyan Lower House and the High Council of State for election laws preparation, announced a preliminary compromise on Tuesday night in Bouznika.
The compromise focuses on crucial topics such as parliamentary and presidential elections, rejection of foreign interference, active engagement of women, and promotion of regional representation within the country.
Jalal Shwehdi, member of the Libyan Lower House, said the final agreement on the legislation will be debated in the coming days, in the presence of the presidents of the Libyan Lower House and the High Council of State.
Abu Lifa, member of High Council of State, indicated that the committee members reached an agreement on all issues of disagreement concerning the electoral law-making process.
Bourita commended the members of the committee for their responsible approach and noted that the presence of the presidents positively contributed to the progress of the discussions.
The Kingdom of Morocco contributed a lot to finding a solution to the Libyan crisis, leading to agreements such as the Skhirat Agreement (2015) and the agreement between the President of the Lower House and the President of the Libyan High Council of State in October 2022.
