The Bible was removed from elementary and middle schools in Utah, USA, for containing “Vulgarity and Violence”, according to BBC.
This decision came after a complaint from a parent saying that the Bible contains materials unsuitable for children like the King James Bible story.
In 2022, Utah’s Republican government approved legislation prohibiting “pornographic or indecent” literature from being taught in public schools.
The Bible’s prohibition is part of a wider movement by US conservatives to prohibit lessons on contentious issues such as LGBT rights and racial identity. Texas, Florida, Missouri, and South Carolina have also banned certain novels considered objectionable.
Some liberal states have also prohibited books from being used in classrooms and libraries due to alleged racially offensive content.
Last year, a Texas school district removed the Bible from library shelves in response to public outcry.
