The Republic of Malta deems Morocco’s autonomy plan as a serious and credible contribution to the UN-led political process aimed at advancing toward a definitive solution to the Sahara issue.
This came in a joint statement on Monday by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and the Maltese Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg, who is currently on a working visit to Morocco.
Malta urged all parties to adhere to UN’s efforts in a spirit of realism and compromise and to show stronger political commitment to finding a lasting solution.
The Maltese official also reiterated his country’s long-standing support for the UN-led process for a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution by the parties, added the statement.
The two ministers reaffirmed their support for UN Security Council Resolutions 2602 and 2654.
The two parties agreed to hold the second session of the Moroccan-Maltese joint committee in Valletta, which is an opportunity to explore new areas of cooperation.
Morocco and the Republic of Malta reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their economic and commercial cooperation, particularly in the field of renewable energy.
