Head of the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat, David Govrin, who was suspended in September 2022 following allegations of “serious acts” of a sexual and financial nature, is set to return to his position by the end of June, “i24NEWS” reported Monday.
After a thorough investigation by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which targeted Govrin, the Israeli Civil Service Commission has closed the file, clearing the diplomat of the alleged misconduct. As a result, Govrin will be returning to Rabat to resume his diplomatic duties.
When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to confirm or deny Govrin’s return to Rabat. Govrin himself has chosen not to respond to requests for comment.
Appointed in January 2021, shortly after the resumption of relations between Israel and Morocco, David Govrin was initially expected to complete his assignment until 2024.
The decision for Govrin’s return marks a significant development in the diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco, and it remains to be seen how his reinstatement will impact the ongoing cooperation between the two nations.
Former Israeli Ambassador to Serbia, Alona Fisher Kamm, has been sent to Morocco as a temporary replacement for David Govrin.
