Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday accused the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of failing to control Iran’s nuclear programs, warning that the U.N. watchdog was at risk of becoming politicized and obsolete.
The criticism came in response to an IAEA assessment last week that Iran offered a satisfactory response to an incident involving suspected uranium particles, and that it had re-installed monitoring equipment initially deployed under a now-defunct 2015 nuclear deal.
Iran has now enriched sufficient amounts of uranium for 60% fissile purity, or two nuclear weapons. If refined further–an action which the country has refuted any desire to accomplish–Israel has promised to undertake preemptive military attacks in the absence of international diplomacy.
“Iran continues to deceive the International Atomic Energy Agency. The agency’s capitulation to Iranian pressure is a black stain on its record,” Netanyahu told his cabinet in televised remarks.
