Morocco is a crucial player in the global fight against terrorism, highlighted Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Vladimir Ivanovich Voronkov, who was speaking in Tangier on Friday.
Voronkov made the statement to the press after meeting with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on the heels of the second edition of the «Marrakech Platform» High-Level Meeting of Heads of Counter-Terrorism and Security Agencies in Africa, which was held in Tangier under the co-presidency of Morocco and the United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism.
Voronkov praised Morocco’s “strategic cooperation” with the UN Office Against Terrorism, stating that the “Marrakech Platform” meeting offers an opportunity to discuss practical mechanisms to support African member states in a more effective fight against terrorism.
The UN official voiced his optimism for stronger international coordination in countering the terrorist presence after describing his meetings with Bourita as “very fruitful” in terms of how the two sides can move forward together with respect to this common objective.
