In yet another recklessly self-incriminating exchange inevitably leading to more legal trauma for Donald Trump, the former U.S. President was heard on tape–obtained by Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed to oversee criminal behavior for which Trump is being investigated–boasting to two civilian biographers without security clearance about a classified document which he retained in his possession despite having lost the 2020 election.
In the videotape, recorded in 2021, Trump discusses the document–which highlighted possible plans for an attack on Iran–for approximately two minutes. He insists in the recording that he is not able to speak on specifics because the document is indeed classified.
Afterwards, in a “town hall” forum hosted by Fox, a media source internationally renowned for its skewed narratives in favor of all things Trump–as partially evidenced by the recent, almost-one-billion dollar judgement against the network for intentionally perpetrating lies about election fraud–Trump nonchalantly attempted to create a cloud of confusion.
In an effort to deflect his culpability on the issue, he essentially merged his obligations under the Presidential Records Act with those of his responsibility to protect confidential material, according to legal analysis by CNN.
“Everything I did was right,” was his response, which incidentally, has been his literal, word-for-word retort on virtually every occasion in which he has been accused of wrongdoing since he moved into the Oval Office in January, 2017.
Stunningly, with net negative approval ratings in the double digits, he could still be poised to retake the presidency subsequent to next November’s U.S. elections, no doubt due to the equally abysmal ratings from which Biden is suffering.
Yet, with the almost exponential increase in effort to hold him accountable for his actions–whatever they might have encompassed and may constitute today–along with his increased sense of agitation toward these efforts resulting in loose-lipped speaking, will the walls be closing in for his chances (and his actual freedom) before November of next year?
