Morocco’s remarkable progress in the automotive industry has caught the attention of renowned manufacturers and innovators in the field. Japanese tire manufacturing factory SMC recently announced the opening of its branch in Casablanca, aimed at strengthening the automotive industry in which the Japanese have proven to be innovative pioneers, particularly in the field of electrical wiring and vehicular circuitry.
SMC Corporation was founded in Tokyo in 1959. It employs over 22,000 people worldwide and possesses a capital of $4 billion USD. Japanese companies based in Morocco employ 50,000 people, making them the largest source of private sector employment in the country’s industrial workforce.
This decision aligns with Japan’s strategy to make Morocco an industrial hub for sectors such as automobiles, food, and green energy. Over 70 other Japanese companies have chosen Morocco as a springboard from which to export their products to Europe and Africa, according to the President of the Japan External Trade Organization.
