The Moroccan Navy recently exhibited its newly-acquired Chinese HJ-9A anti-tank missile system, the Red Arrow 9A, according to English-speaking news outlet « The Defense Post ».
The weapon was used in a training exercise as part of the 67th-anniversary celebration of the country’s armed forces.
The HJ-9A contains a tandem warhead that can pierce reactive armor to a depth of 1.2 meters and is intended to attack armored vehicles and reinforced buildings.
For more efficient target destruction at a maximum range of 5.5 kilometers (3.4 miles), it features two separate explosive charges. The system also has a radar guiding system that makes use of millimeter wave technology to increase strike precision, added the news outlet.
In addition to the HJ-9A, the Moroccan military operates other anti-tank systems, such as the HJ-8L that can hit targets up to 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) away.
Morocco’s purchase of Chinese-made anti-tank missiles illustrates its dedication to bolstering its defenses to face regional security challenges, and upgrading the Moroccan Navy into a powerful and technologically advanced military force.
In 2021, Morocco formally inaugurated its first military base housing a Chinese long-range air defense system.
The Royal Moroccan Army also purchased cutting-edge military drones from the Asian military superpower to replace an earlier model of Chinese drone.
