Customs and Excise Administration (CEA) seized nearly 19 million cigarette packs last year, according to the administration’s 2022 activity report.
“Customs agents and authorities have been able to seize substantial quantities of tobacco goods, including an increase in the seizure of smuggled cigarettes, from 760,000 units in 2021 to 19 million units in 2022,” said the CEA.
Customs is constantly redeploying and strengthening its procedures to thwart new trafficking routes in the battle against narcotic drug trafficking, which led to significant seizures in 2022.
CEA also seized 17 tons of cannabis, 6,356 units of electronic cigarettes, 2 million units of psychotropic tablets, 1.2 tons of hookah tobacco (Mâassel), and 85.5 kg of hard drugs.
