Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita addressed the lower house, on Monday, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to improving consular services for Moroccans residing overseas. The initiative includes the creation of four to five new consulates annually, aiming to foster closer ties with expatriates worldwide.
Mobile consulates are being deployed for improved access, as the overall consular services structure undergoes an upgrade. Technological advancements for service improvement, such as an electronic portal, a unified consular guide, and a multilingual call center are at the center of ministry objectives, noted Bourita.
These initiatives streamline administrative processes, particularly remote consular fee management and improved appointment scheduling.
During the “Marhaba” operation, it is crucial for Moroccans to be able to readily access these services, he added.
Moroccan consulates now offer weekend availability and are expanding their network in Africa and in the United States, with special legislative consideration given to the interests of Moroccans abroad. The reopening of consulates in Tripoli and Benghazi, Libya, is being considered for next summer.
