French TotalEnergies is studying an important project in Morocco, said Company’s Chairperson and CEO Patrick Pouyanné during the 2023 General Assembly meeting held May 26.
“TotalEnergies is currently studying a major wind and solar project in Morocco, intending to export electricity to Europe,” said Pouyanné in response to a question about the profitability of Renewable Energy projects.
The announcement confirms the interest shown by the French group, which–according to internal sources–has been planning for over a year to invest over 100 billion MAD in Morocco in a mega-project to produce hydrogen and green ammonia in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region.
Initiated by Total subsidiary Eren, this is a hybrid project with a capacity of 10 GW, based on solar and wind resources.
On November 25, 2021, the project received the green light from the Unified Regional Investment Commission (CRUI).
