Moroccan runner Soufiane El Bakkali, reigning Olympic and world champion, achieved the World’s Best Performance (WBP) of the year in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, at the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting, the second stage of the Diamond League.
El Bakkali ran the event in 7:56.68 in the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat on Sunday, breaking the previous record set by American Kenneth Rooks on May 6.
The Moroccan athlete bested his effort of 7:58.28, established in June of last year.
