The third edition of the Moroccan Youth International United Nations Model (MUN) kicked off at the International University of Rabat (UIR) on Thursday. The opening ceremony drew a diverse and dynamic attendance from across the globe, including students from UIR, high schools, UM5, ENCG, and Minnesota University.
Over 200 participants set the stage for lively debates and negotiations.
Distinguished guests, such as the heads and deans of universities, Moroccan young activists, and representatives of the Senegalese embassy in Morocco, took part in the event.
The simulated works of various councils, including the Security Council (with a focus on the Russian- Ukrainian conflict), ECOSOC Council, and FAO Council, were executed successfully at the event.
Mustapha Ait Mbarek, President of the Model United Nations and Youth Forum organization, highlighted the significance of the three-day program. He emphasized MUN clubs’ role in taking concrete action to support the principles of the United Nations and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By engaging in MUN conferences, exchanging primary knowledge of the UN, and organizing workshops on accurate simulations, the program seeks to inspire tangible contributions.
Lamyaa Eddai, an English teacher and Head of Academic Affairs and UNSC Council Chair at the MUN, outlined the purpose of Model United Nations simulations. “These simulations serve as a platform for students and participants to engage in diplomatic debates and negotiations, replicating the work of the real United Nations.”
She added that the event showcased the students’ exceptional professionalism, language skills, and ability to thrive under pressure. Delegates represented their countries through articulate speeches, intense debates, and thought-provoking discussions, and were awarded accordingly.
The event concluded with a memorable closing ceremony, where delegates were awarded based on their performance.
