The Casablanca’s Court of Appeal refused, Thursday, to release Member of Parliament (M.M.), who is affiliated with the Popular Movement party, on bail.
The court decided to keep the accused in prison while investigations are under way into the charges of embezzlement of money, squandering of public funds and power abuse.
The suspect had already resigned from his position as chairman of the justice and human rights committee at the lower house.
Police investigations revealed the misappropriation of 11 billion cents. The money was transferred to the suspect’s bank account following several deals, including 400,000 MAD he took from the Al Fkih Ben Salah Association for Culture and Arts’ bank account when he was its chairperson.
Additionally, the suspect was brokering deals for some companies and falsifying paperwork, leading to some unqualified corporations wining important tenders.
Police services had arrested M.M. on Apr.26 in Rabat in his apartment located in Mahaj Riad.
