Atlas, a Moroccan start-up company founded by Mohammed Yehya El Bekkali and Hicham Senhaji Hannoun, declared on Thursday that it hoped to work with the British auto sector to create the “first electric vehicle designed in Africa,” according to a report by the National News.
The start-up, which is headquartered in London, aspires to one day export battery-powered automobiles from Morocco to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa while fusing British know-how with what is termed as a “vibrant Moroccan character” for the car.
It is anticipated that vehicle production will begin in 2026 in Morocco, which is currently a manufacturing location for European automakers like Renault and Citroen.
“We do not underestimate the magnitude, or the complexity of the undertaking required to help end the era of fossil-fuel-dependent mobility in Africa,” said company’s Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Senhaji Hannoun.
As it looks toward British automakers for expertise, the enterprise claims that it has individuals with experience in the IT, automotive, and finance sectors projected to comprise an advisory board.
