Rock’n’roll star Tina Turner passed away peacefully, Wednesday at 83, at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, after a long illness.
Turner started her career in the 1950s, at the dawn of rock ‘n’ roll, and she went on to become an MTV superstar.
Turner, also known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” won six of her eight Grammy Awards during the 1980s. She had a dozen Top 40 hits throughout that decade, including “Typical Male,” “The Best,” “Private Dancer,” and “Better Be Good to Me.”
Her 1988 performance in Rio de Janeiro gathered 180,000 people, one of the highest musical audiences for any musician.
The superstar’s had an abusive marriage that ended dramatically with a divorce. Many times, she was seen with damaged eyes, shattered lips, a fractured jaw, and other injuries that led her to the hospital on many occasions.
She struggled with health issues after retirement. Her oldest son, Craig, committed suicide in 2018 at the age of 59, while Ronnie, her youngest son, passed away in December 2022.
She then left the entertainment industry, and married Bach with whom she ended her life. She gave up her US citizenship and became a Swiss citizen.
