Government spokesperson Mustafa Baitas disclosed the government’s intentions to tax celebrities and content creators on the YouTube network at a press conference on Wednesday.
Baytas said that “It is expected that any activity–regardless of its nature–that generates monetary income for its owner should contribute through taxation.”
He continued, “More in-depth information on this subject will be presented in a future press conference–within a suitable context–especially regarding the targeted categories and methods of implementing this tax,” adding that efforts to carry out these measures have already begun.
This topic has sparked strong and contrasting debate, with opinions both in favor of and against the imposition of taxes on celebrities and influencers on social media platforms, including YouTube.
