The Moroccan port Tanger Med ranked 4th out of 348 in the global ranking of container ports performance index (CPPI). This is an improvement of two spots compared to last year’s ranking, according to a report released by World Bank Group and S&P Global Market Intelligence last Thursday.
Only Yangshan, China; Salalah, Oman; and Khalifa, U.A.E. come out ahead of Tanger Med. Moroccan ports overall are also rated highest in the entire North Africa / Europe region. Port Said in Egypt follows Tanger Med and then comes Algeciras (Spain).
Morocco appears three times in the ranking, as the ports of Casablanca and Agadir were rated 159th and 252nd, respectively.
This worldwide index considers the total number of hours a vessel spends at the port after loading or discharging cargo. A variety of workloads are considered by reviewing the underlying data within ten distinct parameters based on the size of the boats in port.
