Iran has appointed Alireza Enayati as its ambassador to Saudi Arabia, nearly two months after the two countries agreed to resume diplomatic ties, reported several Iranian media outlets.
Enayati was deputy minister for Foreign Affairs and Director General for Arab Gulf Affairs at the same ministry.
Teheran and Riyadh decided in March to resume ties at the end of 4 days of intense negotiations in Beijing, following seven years of animosity that jeopardized Gulf stability.
The Iranian delegation landed in Riyadh on Apr.12, a few days after a Saudi delegation arrived in Tehran on Apr. 8 to negotiate the opening of the Persian embassy and consulate.
