The Moroccan Prison Administration (DGAPR) firmly rejected and condemned, on Friday, the allegations made by French media outlets about the alleged “mistreatment” of detainee T.B., incarcerated in El Arjat 2 prison in Salé.
DGAPR said in a statement that it gave clarifications, on May 13, concerning the medical care offered for the inmate and his refusal to go to the outpatient clinic handcuffed and wearing the prison uniform pursuant to the law, claiming that these security measures undermine his dignity. The convict was hospitalized 11 times with the same measures for consultations or medical check-ups, however, the aforementioned media persist in broadcasting allegations and untruths.
The institution asserted that it constantly ensures humane treatment, without discrimination, to all detainees and strives to preserve their dignity and rights.
In this vein, DGAPR wondered about the motives or the persons who have incited the family of the detainee to make these allegations as the person concerned was not subjected any ill-treatment or medical negligence since his imprisonment. The fact that the prisoner did not make previously any complaint on this matter testifies to the veracity of the prison administration’s statement.
DGAPR explained that the French media’s aim is to undermine the image of this institution and the country as a whole.
