Panama’s customs services arrested, on May 11, Mohamed El-Wali Akik, the nephew of polisario chief of staff, for smuggling foreign currency (valued at $65,000).
The accused was brought to the Panamanian Public Prosecution which decided to ban him from traveling until the court hearing, scheduled for June 9, 2024.
The Algerian embassy in Panama, as well as the Polisario’s envoy to Cuba contacted a number of political figures to intervene on behalf of the smuggler and hide his identity.
The troublemaker owns, alongside his brothers, a business company operating in illicit markets, including imports and exports between China, Panama and Cuba.
