Companies that charge customers more for online payments must reassess their procedures immediately following a statement from the Competition Council published on Tuesday.
The competition watchdog has identified behaviors that contradict the country’s standards for increasing digitization and digital procedure facilitation.
The agency has thus cautioned companies in all domestic industries to refrain from applying these “service-fee” add-ons to the pricing of the actual services themselves when customers choose to pay online. As of this point in time, the directive is considered to be a “warning,” as any plans for the bureau’s enforcement via legislation or punitive/corrective action have not yet materialized.
Many Moroccans have understandably chosen digital payment options to streamline their daily lives and to avoid spending hours in line to pay their bills in-person.
