Hexcel Corporation recently announced the completion of an expansion at its engineered core operations factory in Casablanca, in order to address the increasing demand for lightweight advanced composite materials for the aerospace sector.
The 13,000m2 extension in Casablanca Midparc Free Trade Zone increased the plant’s surface area to 24,000m2. Furthermore, employment at the site is planned to grow from 145 workers to around 400 by 2026.
The Casablanca plant is part of Hexcel’s continued global commitment to provide a diverse and resilient global supply chain to satisfy aerospace clients’ rising demand for engineered cores. Hexcel’s factory, which commenced production in 2018, converts lightweight honeycomb materials into designed core parts used for structural strengthening and lightweight in aerospace applications such as airplane frames, engine nacelles, and helicopter blades.
Thierry Merlot, Hexcel President –Aerospace for Europe, MEA/AP & Industrial– stated that: “the proximity of our customers, the trust of the local authorities, and the qualification of the workforce were major assets for a successful project”.
Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour said, for his part, that “Hexcel’s decision to expand its presence at Midparc is a testament to the aerospace industry’s resilience, competitiveness, and worldwide reputation.”
