The National Police commemorate their 67th anniversary on May 16th, celebrating the sacrifices made by security services in maintaining stability and public order. It is also an occasion to reaffirm their unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and to renew their strong attachment to national institutions, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
This 67th anniversary is an occasion to look into the achievements of this top security institution and memorialize its members’ sense of devotion and loyalism.
Since its establishment in 1956, the national police body (DGSN) has achieved significant milestones, particularly in countering terrorism. Morocco’s security forces have successfully thwarted, since 2002, over 500 terrorism plots, dismantled 215 terror cells, and brought more than 4,304 individuals to justice, according to Mohamed Dkhissi, Director of Judicial Police.
The leadership of Abdellatif Hammouchi in combating terrorism has gained acclaim from foreign security institutions, with meetings held between him and prominent figures such as William Burns, Director of the CIA, Thomas Haldenwang, President of the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Christopher Wray, Director of the FBI.
Morocco’s proactive counterterrorism approach, which was lauded internationally, has effectively reduced terrorist threats. Its strategy includes legal measures, far-reaching reforms, and close cooperation with intelligence agencies.
Security expert Mohammed Akdid said that Morocco succeeded in countering and disrupting all terrorism strategies aimed at undermining the kingdom and its stability, earning the country recognition at the regional and international levels.
On the same topic, former security official Ehsan Al-Hafidhi mentioned the strong partnerships between Moroccan security and foreign security institutions, specifically in Spain, the United States, Germany, and other countries.
