Eric Ciotti, leader of the French Republicans, made a remarkable commitment that, if elected president, he will officially recognize Morocco’s indisputable sovereignty over the Sahara.
During an interview Sunday with Israeli channel “i24”, the French political leader reaffirmed his personal stance that the Sahara belongs to Morocco, a view that is not new to him as he recognized it via his twitter account before visiting Morocco and after. He added that everyone should take note of the significant developments taking place in the Sahara region and its exemplary management by Morocco.
“The sovereignty of Morocco over the Sahara is unquestionable,” Ciotti said. “If I become the President of the Republic, France will immediately recognize the Sahara as Moroccan… just as did the United States in 2020, … and Spain recently, despite Algeria’s discontent.”
“France must engage with all parties, but it cannot treat all parties equally. France and Morocco share a historical friendship. We need to rebuild a win-win relationship based on trust. France needs Morocco, and Morocco needs France,” stressed Eric Ciotti during the same event.
