Head of Public Prosecution Office El Hassan Daki revealed that women’s representation in the Moroccan judiciary stands at 26%, that is 1,093 female judges.
“The realization of gender equality in the justice sector remains one of the biggest challenges facing Morocco today,” said Daki at the 16th Congress of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) held in Marrakech on May 11-14, under the banner: “Women judges: Achievements and Challenges”.
Daki noted that the justice sector in Morocco is witnessing a permanent growth regarding the number of females in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, first instance courts, Appeal courts, and the Court of Cassation.
He stressed that the strengthening of women’s representation in the judicial field is of the utmost importance due to its connection to gender mainstreaming and the protection of marginalized groups.
The event, which is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, the Higher Council of the Judiciary, and the Public Prosecution, brings together over 1,200 women judges from various countries.
