The Moroccan Prison Administration (DGAPR) refuted the allegations by the spouse of detainee T.B., held in El Arjat 2 prison in Salé, about her husband’s shoulder ache and his refusal to be hospitalized wearing the prison uniform.
The administration said that the inmate is receiving the necessary health care both inside the penitentiary and in outpatient clinics.
The DGAPR specified that the prisoner benefited from several medical checkups, including 26 at the Ain Bourja prison and 43 at El Arjat 2 prison.
The detainee had bloodwork done seven times, in addition to 5 dental checkups with medical prescriptions, said DGAPR , adding that the convict went 11 times to the outpatient clinic, handcuffed and wearing the same prison uniform like his fellow inmates as per the prison’s rules and regulations.
The Administration asserted that the wife’s attempt to involve the National Human Rights Council in this case is useless, as the DGAPR cannot violate the legal and regulatory provisions governing Moroccan penitentiaries.
The DGAPR pointed out that the detainee had three appointments at the outpatient facility (on Jan. 20, 2023, May 09, 2023, and May 23, 2023), but refused to go claiming that this security measure undermines his dignity and self-respect.
Concerning the shoulder pain, the Administration recalled that the inmate had a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) giving him the all-clear.
