Emirati astronaut Sultan Al-Neyadi–on a six-month mission in space–tweeted on Wednesday his admiration for Morocco after viewing the city of Rabat and the Bouregreg River from the International Space Station (ISS).
You cannot pass through Morocco 🇲🇦 without being in awe of its beauty. Home to the first and oldest university, al-Qarawiyyin as well as stunning landscapes, architecture and history, here I have captured the beautiful capital city of Rabat with its Bou Regreg river. pic.twitter.com/Yjzr3oFvuu

He stated, “You can’t walk through Morocco without being in awe of its beauty,” noting that the Kingdom is home to the world’s oldest university, Al Qarawiyyin, in addition to “breathtaking landscapes, architecture, and history.”
Astronaut Al-Neyadi is the only Arab to have completed a routine maintenance mission–referred to as Extra-Vehicular Activity, or EVA–beyond the ISS.
His tweet was appreciated by Morocco’s Minister of Energy and Head of the United Nations Environment Assembly, Leila Benali, who thanked him for sharing the view of Morocco’s “Natural and Intangible Capital,” and for “undeniable commitment to climate, environment and technology.”
Thank you @Astro_Alneyadi for this beautiful perspective from the ISS of our natural and intangible capital, and for your undeniable commitment to climate, environment and technology.
Warm Greetings from Rabat. Inchallah @COP28_UAE
