The National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) received 3,245 complaints last year, 1,233 of which were received by the central services of the council itself, and 1,895 of which were handled by affiliated regional committees, said Council’s Chairperson Amina Bouayyash Wednesday.
In a press conference detailing last year’s annual report on the human rights situation in Morocco, Bouayyash stated that the national grievance system for underage victims of child rights violations received 70 complaints and requests, while the National Mechanism for the Protection of the Rights of individuals with special needs received 47 complaints and requests.
“The national system charged with the protection of human rights faced several challenges that affected the situation not only within the Kingdom but around the world,” she added.
The Council’s Chairperson pointed out that these challenges are due to continuing socioeconomic implications of the global pandemic, geo-economic repercussions of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, and acceleration of climate change, as well as to the use of digital technology.
