The Association of Cultural and Artistic Events of the Southern Provinces will host, from June 2 to 8, 2023, the 11th edition of the Dakhla International Film Festival, with a lineup of both Arab and African filmmakers.
This edition comprises the screening of 20 films from the two official categories of competition, as well as featuring short films from Senegal, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Angola, Uganda, Central Africa, Comoros, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Cameroon, Tunisia, Somalia, Ghana, Mauritius, and Morocco, the host country.
Freida Ekotto–author and chair of the African Studies Section at the University of Michigan–will preside over the feature film jury, while journalist and film critic Bilal Marmid will oversee the short film jury.
Moroccan actress Asmaa Khamlichi, Angolan director and producer Zézé Gamboa, and Egyptian actress Rania Farid Chawki will all be honored for their contributions to the cinematic industry.
In the same vein, the program is slated to include symposia, artistic meetings, youth training seminars, and a master class, as well as screenings of the most recent domestic cinematic endeavors.
