French President Emmanuel Macron condemned, via his Twitter account, the spraying of a controversial painting by an individual on Sunday at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, describing the act of vandalism as an assault on “our values.”
On the 8th of May of every year, France celebrates the victory of freedom alongside the Allies of World War II. Macron twitted on the occasion of celebrating this historical win against Nazism, saying that in France, art is always free, and cultural creation is respected.
Named F*ck abstraction! the provocative painting by Swiss artist Miriam Cahn is full of sexual insinuation, and has been exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo since mid-Feb.
The vandal acted alone as he was displeased with the sexual depiction of an infant and an adult. He is not a member of any activism organization.
The Palais de Tokyo has stated that it would file a complaint and continue displaying the painting which has attracted 80.000 visitors so far.
