The Moroccan Media Federation (FMM) blasted a highly biased report recently published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) with respect to the hasty judgments it promoted regarding freedom of expression in Morocco, noting that the latter has lost credibility by mangling facts and supporting falsehoods to serve some agenda.
FMM expressed its disappointment in a statement concerning RSF’s latest release, which obviously discounted Morocco’s progress in building democracy in alleging that its leaders’ sole aim is to undermine freedom of expression.
With regard to claims that individuals accused of and detained for dangerous political discourse have been treated without due process, FMM countered in responding that the defendants in question had indeed been afforded the right to a fair trial with the presence of foreign counsel as requested. FMM further noted that in the case of the said journalists, all facts were based on evidence, which is a testament to the existence of the rule of law.
In maintaining the position that the inclusion of Morocco on the list of nations where press freedom is threatened is inaccurate, FMM further intimates that the designation is atrociously unjust.
FMM categorically renewed its commitment to fighting for a free and responsible media practice that reflects universally recognized values of openness and transparency.
