Morocco and the United Nations will celebrate the International Day of Argania on May 10 at the UN headquarters in New York.
The celebration will be themed “Local Socio-Economic Development and Sustainability of the Argania Ecosystem”, said a press release from the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture.
The event highlights Morocco’s efforts to promote the Argan tree as a species endemic to the Kingdom, and an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, as well as a centuries-old source of sustainable development and resilience.
It also aims to underscore the role of the Argan tree in contributing to food security, enhancing climate change adaptation, and empowering rural women affiliated with agricultural cooperatives.
The celebration will be co-chaired by Minister of Agriculture Mohamed Sadiki, and Morocco’s Representative to the UN Omar Hilale.
The function features a temporary photographic exhibition on the Argan tree (spanning two weeks), as well as a reception to savor Argan products and discover Moroccan cooperatives’ goods.
Nationally, the second International Argan Tree Fair will take place in Agadir on May 17 to 21.
