Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita stressed, Sunday, that the Arab League’s decision on Syria’s return to the bloc should give momentum for a political process leading to a durable solution to the crisis in this country, recalling King Mohammed VI’s recommendation to contain and address crises.
Saudi Arabia’s efforts for the sake of unity and complementarity will make the forthcoming Jeddah summit a venue for Arab reunion, Bourita said in a speech at the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo.
On the Moroccan-Syrian historical links, Bourita recalled that the two countries fought side by side and their troops bled together during the war of October 1973. He noted that the King has always been concerned about the Syrian crisis and the ensuing humanitarian issue.
He added that all Arab countries are in favor of preserving Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and social cohesion, drawing attention to the pressing issues of Syrian refugees, the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid, national reconciliation, and the counterterrorism fight.
Bourita concluded that this approach would align the Arab efforts with the steps undertaken by the UN Special Envoy for Syria to resolve the Syrian crisis and avoid that the country becomes a ground for settling political scores by foreign parties.
