The Reguibat tribe staged, on Wednesday, a sit-in in a tent pitched near Laayoune camps, to urge the release of a member of their tribe (S.S), who was among the 11 people that the Polisario militia arrested for foiling a fuel-smuggling operation by the separatists late April.
During this meeting, it was decided to establish a committee, representing the various components of the Sahrawi population, tasked with contacting the Polisario leadership to demand that the said individual be set free. The body also calls for bringing to justice those who assaulted the man.
Polisario’s leadership has only 48 hours to respond, in order to avoid possible turbulence inside the camps.
The tribe members are armed with 22 Kalashnikovs and might raid the house of polisario leader Brahim Ghali if their demands are not met.
