Activists of the “Free Algeria” movement took part in May 1 march in Paris denouncing Algeria’s military regime and corresponding dictatorship, reported French Union CGT.
Algerian and Amazigh flags were displayed by Algerian activists in an area stretching from Place de la Republique to Place de la Nation. A van equipped with sound equipment escorted the group.
Several Kabyle demonstrators also participated in the Parisian parade. Kabyle flags were readily apparent at the Place de la Republique.
The CGT announced that 2.3 million people demonstrated across France against the pension reform law, compared to 116,500 demonstrators at last year’s May 1 gathering (including 24,000 in Paris).
The statue situated in Paris’s Place de la République from which the procession started was adorned with banners reading, “Macron Get Out.”
A new meeting of the interunion will be held on May 4, with a possible future date of mobilization.
The Constitutional Council will provide an answer on Wednesday concerning the second request for a shared initiative referendum (RIP) filed by left-of-center parties on the eve of the partial validation of the reform.
