The Amazigh World Assembly condemned recent Algerian interference in Libya’s internal affairs, describing the Algerian military regime as an oligarchy.
The Assembly said in a statement that Algeria’s encroachment upon Libya’s domestic agenda is a shamelessly flagrant violation of the United Nations charter. It also expressed its solidarity and unwavering support for the Libyan Amazighs Supreme Council in efforts to curb Algeria’s attempts to sabotage the Amazigh struggle.
In addition, the Assembly denounced Algeria’s reckless conduct which could easily result in a political crisis of immeasurable proportions–due not only to its interference in the affairs of its neighboring countries–but also to its propagandizing fabrication of an imaginary enemy in the hopes of distracting the Algerian people from their genuine everyday struggles and their journey toward self-sufficiency.
In this vein, the Assembly called for the constitutional recognition of Amazigh as an official language of Libya.
It also called on Libyan political parties to include the Amazighs in domestic policymaking, and to establish procedures and timelines for the recognition of linguistic and cultural pluralism, as well as for full equality under the law.
In a similar context, the Assembly further expressed its full support for the Amazighs in Algeria, who at this time are experiencing countless forms of oppression and arbitrary detainment, and who are facing grossly defamatory accusations of supporting separatist and even terrorist ideology.
