Two Moroccan cyclists have been missing for several days on the border between Burkina Faso and Niger, a Moroccan diplomatic source said Friday.
Abderrahmane Serhani (65) and Driss Fatihi (37) have not been seen or heard from since they entered Burkina Faso from Côte d’Ivoire and headed towards Niger.
The two cyclists left Morocco on Jan.19 via the El Guerguerat passage (south Morocco) and headed to Mauritania, then to other African countries.
Morocco’s Embassy in Ouagadougou is coordinating efforts with all authorities to find the two men and determine whether or not they left the West African countries.
On Mar. 29, one of the two cyclists posted on his Facebook page a video saying he is going to Burkina Faso, a place where violence reaches its highest due to the terrorist groups of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.
The Souss-Massa Tourist Cyclists Association already posted an appeal on social media. The phone number +22606418080 is available for any information that could help find them.
