Morocco’s representative to the UN and ex-Chairman of the UN Information Committee (2019-2021) Omar Hilale, welcomed the UN Department of Global Communications’ efforts to combat disinformation and stressed the value of multilingualism for multilateralism.
Hilale also lauded the UN initiatives to support peacekeeping operations and countering hate speech, as well as its dissemination of reliable, impartial and verifiable information.
He urged the department to strengthen the equal use of the six official languages.
Delegates at the United Nations Information Committee annual session have also called for greater multilingualism across the organization’s digital platforms and communication products.
The rise of disinformation and the digital gap were concerns raised by delegates, who emphasized the essentiality of multilingualism.
The committee addressed communication strategies, including how to use digital media effectively and combat disinformation.
