Police services and the Judicial Investigation Bureau (BCIJ) arrested, on Thursday, 13 ISIS-affiliated extremists aged between 19 and 49.
The suspects were apprehended all over Morocco, particularly in the cities of Casablanca, Beni Mellal, Mohammedia, Khenifra, Temara, Tiflet, Tangier, Ksar Kebir, Rissani and Berkane. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the public prosecution in charge of terror affairs, according to the National Police (DGSN).
Police services seized at the suspects’ houses digital equipment and material that will be submitted to forensics, in addition to documents containing extremist ideologies and publications inciting violence and kamikaze attacks.
Preliminary data show that some suspects were already involved in terrorist operations against sensitive and security institutions, under what is called “individual terrorism” operations.
Investigations also revealed that some of them have suspicious ties with terrorist elements outside Morocco, with the aim of joining ISIS branches in the Sahel and Sahara region.
The terrorists were placed in police custody to complete the investigation under the supervision of the public prosecution.
