Morocco did not request the assistance of France in evacuating its nationals from Sudan as reported by French daily “Le Monde” on Sunday.
The paper had claimed that France helped evacuate Moroccan, German, British, Swiss, Belgian, Nigerien, Egyptian, and Ethiopian expatriates stuck in Sudan, upon their countries’ request.
The Moroccan part of the news story is fake news as all Moroccan citizens stranded in Sudan are evacuated effectively via Moroccan planes. Just today, three RAM planes landed in Port Sudan to transport Moroccan citizens back home.
It is France that should seek the help of Morocco to bring French citizens home after its failed commando operation in Khartoum.
As for the Kingdom, the first RAM plane, carrying 136 Moroccan evacuees from Port Sudan (East) landed on Wednesday at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport.
Following the intensification of violence in Khartoum, King Mohammed VI ordered an airlift operation to ensure the safe return of Moroccan citizens and their families.
