The Ministry of Transport and Logistics will regulate the usage of electric personal transportation devices such as electric scooters.
In response to a written question at the Lower House, Transport Minister Mohamed Abdeljalil stated that two draft texts modifying Decree 2.10.421 (provisions related to cars) and Decision 2730.10 (concerning the approval of vehicles, their components, and accessories) are in the process of being elaborated.
The goal is to include electric scooters in the category of motorcycles to ensure the safety of road users, and reduce energy consumption, the production of non-recyclable waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
The said amendments will help govern the use of electric scooters on highways to reduce the number of accidents caused by motorcycles.
Many European and North American countries have adopted specific regulations for this category of vehicles because of the increase in fatal accidents.
