Energy China International Construction Group signed, recently, an agreement with Saudi conglomerate Ajlan Bros and Moroccan Energy firm Gaia Energy to develop a green hydrogen energy project in Morocco’s southern regions.
The Shanghai-listed company plans to build a green ammonia factory with an annual output of 1.4 million tons, created from around 320,000 tons of green hydrogen, as well as a 2 gigawatt photovoltaics solar plant and a 4 gigawatt wind power project.
The project partners are also required under the MoU to manage and maintain the facilities upon their completion.
The green hydrogen project will deliver clean energy to southern Morocco and Europe.
Gaia Energy, based in Benslimane (Morocco), is one of Africa’s top renewable energy project developers.
Company’s founder Zniber Moundir signed a strategic agreement with Israeli company H2Pro, late last year, to co-develop a gigawatt-scale green hydrogen project, beginning with a prototype project employing 10-20 MW-scale H2Pro electrolyser technology.
