Royal Navy coastguards operating in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic have rescued 552 illegal migrants, predominantly sub-Saharan, between April 8th and 18th.
The would-be migrants were attempting to cross the sea using boats, kayaks, jet skis and even by swimming, according to an official source.
The rescued individuals received first aid and were taken safely to the nearest port. They were handed to the Royal Gendarmerie services to complete the routine procedure.
