King Mohammed VI pardoned 1,518 convicts on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr (marking the end of Ramadan).
The Ministry of Justice announced that the beneficiaries are either detained or have suspended sentences.
The detained are 1,270, including 411 inmates who benefited from pardon over their remaining prison sentences, 858 prisoners who got their prison sentences reduced, and 01 inmate had his life sentence commuted to a fixed prison term.
Those with suspended sentences are 231: 61 persons benefited from pardon over their imprisonment terms, 08 people benefited from pardon over their imprisonment terms while maintaining the fines, 156 people had their fines annulled, while 02 others received pardon over both their prison terms and fines.
Inmates convicted in terror and extremism cases also benefited from the royal pardon after rejecting their ideologies and expressing attachment to the Nation’s immutable values. They are 17: five received pardon over the remaining prison sentence, five benefited from pardon over the prison term and the fines, six had their prison term reduced, and one had his fine annulled.
