Rached Ghannouchi, leader of Tunisian opposition Islamic party Ennahda and one of the fierce opponents of president Kais Saied, was arrested on Monday in Tunis, the party announced.
Ghannouchi, who headed the parliament that was dissolved in July 2021 by Saied, was arrested by the police at his house and led to an unknown destination, the political formation said in a press release.
Tunisian sources said that Ghannouchi was taken to the El Aouina Barracks upon the order of the public prosecution.
