The FBI captured Jack Douglas Teixeira, a 21-year-old member of the United States Air National Guard, on Thursday for leaking top secret files online, said Reuters.
The arrest comes a week after the leaks became publicly known, raising concerns in Washington about the harm they may cause.
The incident shamed the US by exposing its espionage in Israel, South Korea, and Turkey, and alleged Ukrainian military shortcomings.
Teixeira could face at least a 10-year jail sentence for disseminating national defense material.
Chelsea Manning, the Wikileaks leaker, was sentenced to 35 years in prison for releasing more than 700K documents, videos, and diplomatic cables in 2010.
